Abstract

1,220,012. Thread severing devices. LEESONA CORP. 9 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 18054/69. Heading B4B. [Also in Division D1] A device for cutting a strand Y e.g. a yarn, comprises a pair of guides 40 extending from a base member 34 to form a slot 26, blades 32 extending across the slot and a member 28 for releasably retaining the strand in the slot and releasing the strand for movement toward the blades, the member being responsive to a predetermined pressure of the strand in a direction toward the blades. The retaining member 28 is pivoted on one of the guides 40 and normally held in the position shown in Fig. 2 by means of a spring (52, Fig. 3). In operation, a yarn is fed over a hub 18 on a spindle 14, across a guide wheel 20 and then through the slot 26 to an aspirator 22. As the winding commences the tension on the yarn increases thereby causing the retaining member to pivot downwardly so that the yarn snaps against the cutting edge of the blades. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 a pair of blades 78 are mounted on a vertical support 64 within guides 74, the retaining member being in the form of a pin carried by a pivoted block 88.
