Abstract
1,208,339. Vehicle windshields. HAMBURGER FLUGZEUGBAU G.m.b.H. 4 Sept., 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 42007/68. Heading B7J. [Also in Division E1] A method of treating aircraft or spacecraft windscreens which have at least their outer layers composed of a highly transparent rigid sheet plastics material, e.g. a polyester, is characterized in that the surfaces of the screen are treated with a halogen, e.g. bromine vapour or solution, or mixtures of halogens such as bromine with chlorine, to render them electrically anti-static, i.e. to have a specific resistance of about 10<SP>9</SP> ohm cm. The reaction may be accelerated by light and heat, and any excess bromine neutralized by treatment with aromatic or aliphatic amines, e.g. diethanolamine, including hot aqueous solutions of such amines, or steam.
