Abstract

1,210,547. Bubble-free polyurethane coatings. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 23 May, 1968 [16 June, 1967], No. 24657/68. Heading B2E. A fabric having a bubble-free polyurethane coating is prepared by feeding a fabric beneath a doctor blade having a bank of liquid polyurethane reaction mixture positioned in contact therewith to produce a polyurethane coating on a first side of the fabric; curing the polyurethane coating on the first side of the [fabric; heating the second side of the fabric to a temperature at least equal to that to which the liquid polyurethane will be subjected during curing; subsequently coating the second side with polyurethane by feeding the fabric beneath a doctor blade having a bank of liquid polyurethane reaction mixture positioned in contact therewith; and curing the polyurethane on the second side; the rate of feed of the fabric beneath the doctor blades being sufficient to cause each of the banks to rotate such that the portion of the bank in contact with the fabric moves in the same direction as the fabric. The fabric may be heated to at least 125‹F when it passes beneath the doctor blade. The fabric may be of cotton, polyamide, polyester, metal or glass.
