Abstract
1,198,804. Fluid actuation of switches. IRVING AIR CHUTE OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd. 27 July, 1967 [2 Sept., 1966], No. 39417/66. Heading H1N. [Also in Division G1] A switch to be actuated at a first value of atmospheric pressure only after passing through said value and returning thereto after attaining a second value (for example, for releasing a parachute from a rocket on re-entry into the earth's atmosphere) comprises a contact-carrying arm 24 pivoted at 26 and urged by a spring 30 towards a stepped collar 20 but held away therefrom by a latching blade 34. Adjustably mounted capsule(s) (6, Fig. 2, not shown) move collar 20 such that at a very low ambient pressure it impinges on a screw (38) adjustably secured to blade 34 to lift the latter, thereby releasing arm 24 into engagement with collar 20. As the ambient pressure increases the capsules (6) retract collar 20 until arm 24 drops off a shoulder thereon and a blade contact 42 engages fixed contact 44. At a higher pressure still the arm 24 drops off a further shoulder on collar 20 and contact 42 engages a second fixed contact 46. Instead of the aneroid capsule (6) a bimetallic or other temperature-responsive element may be used, or a humidity-responsive element.
