Abstract

1,087,759. Thermal switches. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. June 21, 1966, No. 27638/66. Heading H2B. A switch particularly suitable for high-temperature warning in aircraft comprises a housing divided into two chambers by a fusible partition of lead or lead alloy. The first chamber is sealed by a screwed plug after air or other gas at or above normal atmospheric pressure has been introduced, and the other chamber is vented by a small aperture and contains two fixed contacts. At a predetermined high temperature the partition will melt and the pressure differential between the chambers (which increases with increasing altitude) will force it to bridge the fixed contacts and operate a warning device connected thereto.
