Abstract

1,177,312. Opening containers. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. 7 March, 1968 [17 March, 1967], No. 11199/68. Heading B8D. A can end 12 has a tear portion 15 defined by a weakened line 16 to which a pull tab 20 is riveted at 18. A C-shaped connecting ear 31 defined by a cut 30 in a recessed panel 28 of the pull tab 20 has an inner flange 22 overlaid by the rivet 18. The pull tab 20 rests on a pair of beads 21 in the can end. The pull tab 20 is reinforced by rolled edges and has fulcra 25 at its inner end, forced down on to the can end 12 when it is pulled upwards. Fig. 4, so that it hinges about the join between the connecting ear 31 and the fulcra to rupture the weakened line 16 and remove the tear portion 15.
