Abstract

1365387 Easy-opening containers NATIONAL STEEL CORP 17 Sept 1971 [18 Sept 1970] 43415/71 Heading B8D A sheet metal, e.g. aluminium or steel, full easy-open container end 28 comprises a removable panel 28 defined by an outer score line consisting of diverging leg portions 30, 31 joining a rounded apex or starter portion 29 to a semi-circular portion 32, a tab 34 riveted to the removable panel between a nose end 35 and a finger ring end 37 with the nose end aligned with the apex portion of the scoreline, an arcuate inner scoreline 60 in the removable panel and partially circumscribing the rivet 39 on the opposite side thereof to the apex portion of the outer score, and arcuate reinforcing ribs 44-46 extending across the removable panel and partially circumscribing the rivet. Further reinforcement of the panel is provided by dished portion 48 and an arcuate rib 53. The tab is of sheet metal and has its peripheral edges folded over to give the tab rigidity, the nose end having a projection 84 formed in the flattened double thickness sheet metal folded edge to concentrate the rupturing force to be applied to the apex portion of the outer scoreline on raising the tab. Projections 40 and 41 in the removable panel prevent rotation of the tab about its securing rivet.
