Abstract

1345714 Easy-opening can ends CEBAL GP 8 Jan 1971 [8 Jan 1970] 1007/71 Heading B8D A can end 1 having a pull tab 6 riveted at 7 to a removable panel defined by a tear-line 3, is provided with an inwardly directed corrugation 9 in the panel adjacent the rivet and on the side thereof remote from the pull tab nose 8, said corrugation having a depth exceeding the can end thickness and being deformed on raising the tab and puncturing of the tear-line to prevent the rivet and tab from being torn off the panel. As shown, the corrugation is semicircular with its radius of curvature centred on the rivet axis. In modifications, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the can ends are of generally rectangular or oval configuration and the corrugations 9<SP>1</SP> extend perpendicular to the longitudinal areas of the tab or arcuately about the rivet with the centre of arc curvature disposed between the rivet and the puncturing nose.
