Abstract

1,031,143. Opening containers. CONTINENTAL CAN COMPANY Inc. May. 26, 1964. No. 21765/64. Heading B8D. An end panel 15 of a can is torn by means of a pull tab 27 riveted to one end of a tear strip 24 defined by score lines 23, 16 and 20, a portion 29 of the panel being recessed to provide a wall 30 which extends round the end 22 of the score line 20, thereby preventing the strip 24 from being torn away from the remainder of the panel 15 when the can is opened. Each score line differs in depth from the other two, line 23 being deepest, Fig. 6 (not shown), for starting the tear, the line 20 being the shallowest, and the line 16 of intermediate depth, Fig. 8 (not shown).
