Abstract

1,172,533. Window stay. J. BROWN. 7 Aug., 1967 [9 July, 1966], No. 30940/66. Heading E2F. In a stay of the kind comprising a rod 10 pivotally fixed at one end 11 to a window frame and having a sliding fit engagement with a slipper block 12 secured to the frame of a window pane, a limit stop in the form of a knob 14 is mounted on a spindle 15 at the free end of the stay rod 10 for rotation relative thereto and a helical spring 18 is compressed between a shoulder 19 on the spindle 15 and an inwardly turned lip 20 of the knob 14, whereby the flat base 16 of the knob is pressed into frictional contact with the adjacent surface of the stay rod 10. A projecting abutment 17 on the knob 14 closes the end of the channel-sectioned stay rod 10 to prevent separation of the slipper block 12 from the rod 10. The bore formed in the knob to receive the spindle 15 is closed by a plug 21. To permit separation of the slipper block 12 from the stay 10, the knob is moved upwards against the spring 18 and then rotated. Rotation is in one direction only, due to the spindle 15 being offset from the medial plane of the stay (Fig. 1a). In a modification (Figs. 2 and 2a, not shown), the stay rod 22 is a flat strip, the slipper block 23 is V-shaped and is formed with a channel for taking the rod 22, and the knob 25 has a pair of projections 26 which enter recesses cut adjacent the ends of the rod 27.
