Abstract

1,169,672. Hinge joint. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 26 June, 1968 [7 July, 1967], No. 30418/68. Heading E2F. A hinge joint has a fixed hinge component 1 provided at its free end with rectangular recesses 5, 6. The pivoting hinge component 3 has rectangular lugs 9 and 10 which are inserted into the recesses 5, 6 and thereby prevented from moving longitudinally of the pivotal axis. Limited pivotal movement of 1 and 3 between open and closed positions is allowed. Radiused shoulders 11 and 12 (Fig. 5) extend laterally of 9 and 10 and run on a surface 13 of 1 being retained in bearing contact with 13 by means of a helical compression spring 16 located in a U-shaped bracket 14. The spring 16 holds the hinge joint open when in the open position and closed when in the closed position.
