Abstract
1,164,721. Fixed jaw railway couplers. MIDLAND-ROSS CORP. 18 Jan., 1967 [7 Feb., 1966], No. 2625/67. Heading B7T. A fixed jaw, e.g. Willison railway coupler comprises an anti-creep element 7 which is pivoted at 31, 41 to a lock 6 itself pivotable at 23, 25 and 24, 26 on the head wall 14, and which has an end 58 engageable with an abutment 56 carried by a pivoted lock-set piece 8 to prevent rearward movement of the lock when the coupler is coupled (Fig. 12) to a similar coupler, the end 58 projecting rearwardly through an opening 98 in the head to indicate the lock-set condition (Fig. 15) of the coupler. On coupling, the piece 8 is pivoted from the position of Fig. 9 about 49 by the buffing jaw of the other coupler to the position of Fig. 12. Uncoupling is effected by rotation of a shaft 11 secured to a thrower 10 which initially by means of its cam 66 rotates the element 7 so that the end 58 is raised from the shelf 44 of the head, and then by means of its cam 65 engages the lock surface 97 and pivots the lock backwards, and by means of its boss 29 raises the piece 8 until the boss 29 engages the rear surface 54 of the piece 8, so that the coupler is in the lock-set position (Fig. 15) and uncoupling is completed by separating the couplers. The lock-set position is cancelled by lifting handle 59 on the piece 8.
