Abstract

1,131,619. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 March, 1966 [20 March, 1965], No. 11699/66. Heading H1D. In a beam convergence device for the lateral displacement of the electron beams from three electron guns 3, 5, 7 in a colour television tube, symmetrical displacements of the three beams are effected by two oppositely directed transverse magnetic fields derived from permanent magnets 23 mounted in a rotatable magnet support 21, one of which fields acts on the beam from gun 3 whilst the other influences the beams from guns 5, 7. The magnetic fields are shaped by a soft ferromagnetic yoke 13 and by two field conductors fastened to a non-magnetic supporting strip 15. The yoke 13 is substantially in the form of a U of strip material having a base and ends directed inwardly towards guns 5, 7 to meet the tube neck 1 tangentially. The field conductors are symmetrically placed either side of gun 3 with a portion 19 parallel to the base of the yoke and affixed to the strip 15 and a portion 17 extending tangentially along the tube neck. The two permanent magnets 23 are held adjacent the portions 19 in magnet support 21 between the base of the yoke and strip 15 and are magnetized at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the support 21. With a portion 25 of the yoke base extending inwardly towards gun 3 and ferromagnetic gun support ing members 9, the field produced is as indicated in the Figure and its strength may be varied uniformly by rotating the support 21 about its longitudinal axis. Periodic displacements of the electron beams may be produced by either a coil 39, influencing beam from gun 3 only, or two coils 41, affecting all beams, to provide for dynamic convergence.
