Abstract
1,014,026. Cathode-ray tubes. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS- G.m.b.H. Aug. 23, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961; March 24, 1962; April 18, 1962], No. 32369/62. Heading H1D. In order to mask the line structure of the scanning raster of a cathode-ray tube, the scanning spot is elongated in a direction perpendicular to the lines by means of diametrically oppositely disposed two pairs of magnets 8, 9, Fig. 2, magnetized in a direction parallel with the beam axis laminations 14 constituting polepieces. The magnets are mounted in cylindrical cavities in a non-magnetic yoke 7 which may be clipped on the neck of the tube. A spring strip 12 is embedded by injection or casting into the yoke 7. More than two cavities may be provided, as shown, so that varying degrees of elongation may be obtained as desired by varying the number of magnets used. Alternatively, an electromagnet may be used comprising a winding (not shown) and a ferromagnetic casing 16, Fig. 3, formed of two halves, each having cut-away regions 17 to leave, effectively, polepieces 19 formed by the flanges on both halves of the casing, an airgap left between the flanges when the casing is assembled giving the required field. The airgap need not be central but located nearer the screen end of the tube, or the air-gap may be helical rather than circular. Springy tongues of insulating material are mounted on one of the halves of the casing to hold the assembly in position on the tube neck. The Specification describes a switching circuit for use with a cathode-ray tube to give either normal operation or to include the auxiliary magnetic system for giving an ellipsoidal scanning spot.
