Abstract

1511677 Electron beam magnetic deflecting systems PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 Aug 1975 [8 Aug 1974] 32697/75 Heading H1D A deflection unit for a colour C.R.T. with three guns in one horizontal plane comprises a line deflection system including two saddle coils 5 enveloped by a ferromagnetic ring yoke 1, and two toroidal coils 7 wound about the yoke recesses 21 being provided in the rear of the yoke in which the coils 7 extend; each saddle coil being connected to at least one toroidal coil. The coils provide a strong cushion-shaped field without the turns of the saddle coils being excessively concentrated. Each saddle coil 5 may be connected in series or parallel with a toroidal coil 7. When in parallel a variable coil is placed in series with each coil 7 whereby current (1-Ik) flows through the saddle coils and k1 through the toroidal coils; k being adjustable using the variable coil. There may be several toroidal coils for each saddle coil.
