Abstract

1,098,175. Press manipulators. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 9, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 37857/63. Heading B3H. Manipulating apparatus for moving a press anvil 12 comprises a pair of double-acting hydraulic piston and cylinder assemblies 15, 15A arranged on opposite sides of the press centre 14 and means 18, 18A for coupling these assemblies to the anvil. The latter is connected by inter-engaging abutments such as 24, 25 with slidable floor plates 26, 26A having recesses 27, 27A adapted to receive spring or counterweight biased coupling pins 18, 18A carried by cross-heads 17, 17A coupled to the respective pistons 16, 16A. During a transfer movement of the anvil one coupling pin 18 is withdrawn by engagement of its roller 21 with a fixed wedge 32 whilst the opposite pin 18A is engaged. Pressure oil is supplied by pump 36 through solenoid-actuated valves 40, 44, 45 controlled by limit switches 35, 35A actuated by strikers 34, 34A on the respective cross-heads. Interengaging abutments 28, 30 are also provided between the cross-heads and the floor plates 26, 26A. The coupling pins 18, 18A may be of flat or circular form and may alternatively be operated in both directions by a cam track.
