Abstract
1,088,715. Gas burner igniters. HORSTMANN GEAR CO. Ltd. Aug. 31, 1966 [July 12, 1965; Feb. 2, 1966], Nos. 29468/65 and 4563/66. Heading F4F. An electric gas burner igniter comprises a wire filament 10 located above a flat base 2 of an ignition chamber 1 and adjacent to a path through said chamber between an inlet orifice 9 in the centre of the base and an outlet opening 6 in the wall 5 of said chamber in axial alignment with the inlet orifice, wherein the base is mounted on the outlet end of a gas supply line in which there is a constriction 20. The constriction is provided in a union 15 in the supply line below primary air inlets 13. The position of the constriction may be adjusted relative to the inlets 13. A baffle 20 is provided in pipe 8 of the gas supply line. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), the constriction is formed within a banjo fitting which connects the igniter to a main gas supply pipe. The area of the inlet orifice is preferably in the range of 8-16 times that of the constriction and other dimensions and relative distances between different components of the embodiments are given in the Specification.
