Abstract

A heat exchanger, particularly for preheating and part roasting raw cement meal, comprises a vertical cylindrical chamber with a tangential gas inlet 23 and a central gas outlet duct 25, a vane wheel 31 coaxial with and surrounding the gas outlet duct 25 and inside an annular inlet nozzle 27 for the granular material. Guide walls 33, 34 mounted on the upper end of the inner wall of the annular material outlet 22<SP>1</SP> are overlapped to leave gaps through which material passes outwards and gases pass inwardly. The lower part of the device forms a hopper 29 feeding a rotary kiln 21 through a flap valve 30.
