Abstract

1,084,372. Apparatus for piercing well bores. SCHLUMBERGER WELL SURVEYING CORPORATION. Feb. 11,1966 [Feb. 12, 1965], No. 6158/66. Heading F3A. An apparatus for piercing well bores comprises a sealed housing 15, a plurality of hollow explosive charges 31 having a surrounding rearward case 30 and a forward metal liner 32, each explosive charge being mounted in separate sealed compartments 21 and being selectively ignited by electrically actuated initiators 44 each located adjacent the rearward portion of the charges. The initiator is actuated by a filament wire 75, Fig. 3 (not shown), which becomes heated on the passage of an electrical current and ignites a combustible mixture (79) surrounding the filament and a primary explosive (80) to detonate the hollow charge 31. In the rearward portion of each hollow charge there is located a primer charge 38 and there are a number of holes (78) in the surrounding ease 37 so as to densitize the charge 38 should fluid leak into the housing. The compartments 21 are closed and sealed by screwed-in members 16.
