Abstract
1,237,592. Projectiles. WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON BUHRLE A.G. 24 July, 1968 [26 July, 1967], No. 35372/68. Heading F3A. An explosive projectile comprises at least one secondary projectile 13, which is disposed on an explosive charge 3 and is thrown outwardly by detonation of the explosive charge, the secondary projectile having an open blind hole whose mouth faces away from the explosive charge and includes an incendiary charge 17 in the blind hole covered by an ignition charge 18 of the gasless type. The subsidiary projectile is secured in a plastics cage 9, and can be inclined at an angle of 60 degrees to the cross-sectional plane of the projectile. The ignition charge contains manganese and lead chromate and is ignited by the flash from the charge 3. The incendiary charge contains magnesium and P.T.F.E. The charge 3 is a hollow charge, and front and rear portions of the charge, not surrounded by secondary projectiles, are surrounded by annular, expanded polystyrene fillings (8, Fig. 1, not shown).
