Abstract
108,318. Filippi, A. P. July 21, 1916 [Convention date]. Resistance to propulsion, reducing. - Relates to means for reducing resistance tu propulsion, &c., the said means being applicable for assisting propulsion. A revolving hollow body 2, of the form shown, fits over the forward end of the hull and is rotated by a separate motor 6, or by the ship's propelling-engines. Water enters the hollow body through a central opening 3 and is forced out under centrifugal pressure through lateral jet openings 4 in the direction of the arrows f'. The body may be rotated by means of vanes thereon, the motor being dispensed with. In a modification. water is supplied to the hollow body from the rear by a centrifugal pump, the body being rotated by the entering water acting on a rotor attached to the body.
