Abstract
1,083,021. Endless conveyers; hydraulic Jacks. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Dec. 31, 1964 [Jan. 3, 1964], No. 399/64. Headings B8A and B8J. Apparatus for anchoring an armoured mine face conveyer (not shown) comprises two spaced beams 10, 11, carrying two hydraulically operated mine roof props 12, 13 and 14, 15 respectively, rods 17, 18 rigidly connecting a crosshead19 with a carriage 20 slidable on the beam 10 and constructed to carry a drive head (not shown) of the conveyer. The carriage 20 is moved longitudinally of the beam 10 by pairs of hydraulic rams 22, 23 and 24, 25. The beam 11 carries brackets 30 to maintain a further portion of the drive head fixed in relation to the beam 11 in the space 31. Pairs of rams 37, 38 and 39, 40 are rigidly attached to the beam 11 and pivotally attached at pins 45, 46, respectively, to the beam 10: this arrangement permits the beam 10, assuming props 12, 13 withdrawn and props 14, 15 fast to be shifted out of parallel with the beam 11. Thereafter, when props 14, 15 are withdrawn and props 12, 13 fast and the rams 22, 23 and 24, 25 actuated to move the carriage 20 along the beam 10, the slight angle between the beams 10, 11 results in a tensioning of the conveyer. Flexible hydraulic pipes (50) to (57), Fig. 3 (not shown), are enclosed for protection, while the beams 10, 11 have upwardly sloping ends (58), Fig. 2 (not shown), to facilitate their employment on soft floors. Each prop 12, 13, 14, 15 has a roofengaging member 16 on a swivel mounting including a flat cap 60 carried on a part spherical bearing 65 on a part spherical foot 64, a flange 62 limiting the angle of inclination of member 16.
