Abstract
1,082,243. Water separators. RICHARDSONS, WESTGARTH & CO. Ltd. July 10, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No. 14393/63. Heading B1T. [Also in Division F4] Wet steam or other gas passes through a bank 12 of vertically extending water-collecting members in a direction parallel to their major surfaces, the members having drain gallies 14, which direct water to the bottom of the bank 12 (Fig. 3, not shown) and which open on planes transverse to the major surfaces. The members are flat plates with grooves 14 in their edges and are used in conjunction with a bank 10 of corrugated plates upstream of bank 12. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) either or each of banks 10, 12 is replaced by an array of vertical flattened tubes having slits in their downstream edges. The banks are arranged in a cylindrical casing (Fig. 5, not shown) having a water drain with a Venturi constriction. Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates an annular chamber enclosing a break in a steam pipe, which collects water from the pipe and acts as a flexible connection. Some separated water may be sprayed back into the steam upstream of the separator to improve separation.
