Abstract
1,081,785. Pipe couplings. C. GOSSIAUX. May 17, 1966 [May 17, 1965], No. 21877/66. Heading F2G. A device for connecting a tube 1, such as an engine injection tube, to a recepter member 5, such as an injection pump or injector, comprises a plastics, preferably nylon, ring 6 surrounding the tube end, a metal sleeve 7 surrounding said ring, and a coupling nut 11 screw-threaded to the receptor member whereby tightening of the nut causes the ring to deform and the material thereof to flow and prevent any contact between the outer surface of the tube and the metal sleeve and the coupling nut. The metal sleeve has a conical end portion 9 which is abutted by the walls of a corresponding conical bore 17 in the nut, tightening of the nut causing the material of the plastics ring to flow at 18 between the tube and the metal sleeve. Compression of the ring against the end face 20 of the nut also causes the plastics material to flow at 21 between said end face and the metal sleeve. The tube, which has a plastics inner layer and a metal outer layer, is formed with a flared end.
