Abstract

829,069. Pipe joints. POLYMERCORPORATION. April 11, 1958 [April 15, 1957], No. 11527/58. Class 99(1) A connector fitting for a tube 14, made of plastic, e.g. nylon or polyethylene, comprises a body 10 having a conduit passage 12 and a bore 16 having a bottom portion 18 in the shape of a frustum of a cone communicating with the conduit passage. The bore 16 is fitted with a washer 20 of heat-resistant, rubber-like material of rectangular, transverse cross-section, a washer 22 of low, cold-flow, material, e.g. steel or brass, and a compression nut threadedly engaged with the body 10 for axial advancement into the bore 16, the washers, the nut and a portion of the body being provided with aligned central openings to fit and receive the end of the tube 14. As shown the body 10 is provided with pipe threads 32 for connection to an apparatus and a longitudinally split, metal, tubular, sleeve member 30 is inserted within the portion as the tube 14 which is embraced by the washer 20, the sleeve being of steel, copper, hard bronze, berillium copper, stainless steel or aluminium. On tightening the nut 24, the washer 20 is deformed and compressed into the conical surface 18 and is thereby caused to press radially inwardly on the tube 14 causing indentation of the plastic material.
