Abstract

998,128. Flexible conduits; pipe couplings- ABBOFLEX Ltd. April 29, 1963 [May 10, 1962], No. 18004/62. Headings F2G and F2P. A flexible conduit comprises a flexible metallic tube 16 enclosed within an outer sleeve 21 of butyl rubber. In the construction shown, the tube 16 is provided with an internal, helical groove 20. A coupling member includes a gland nut 12, a body portion 11 and a nipple 13, the nipple having a helical nib 15 which cooperates with the helical groove 20 of the. tube 16. The body portion 11 also has a ferrule 18 which, with the nipple, forms an annular gap 19 into which the flexible conduit is introduced. The ferrule is then compressed as by swaging or other means on to the conduit (Fig. 2, not shown). A small quantity of mastic or plastic sealing material may be injected into the annular gap 19 before the screwing together of the conduit and coupling member. The constructions of a male and female coupling member are disclosed in Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The sleeve 21 is placed about the tube by first inflating the sleeve with compressed air and then introducing the tube.
