[Also in Division G1] Intercommunicating channels 14B (Fig. 1) interconnecting via slots 15, 17 with storage channels 14A have numbers located along their sides to indicate the number of counters in each channel. The numbers may be in Braille. Addition of, for example 4 and 5 is achieved by locating four counters in one channel and five in another and then transferring all the counters into one channel so that the top counter is adjacent the numeral 9. Multiplication of, for example, 3 by 7 is carried out by putting seven counters into each of three work channels and then transferring them so that two channels are filled and one counter remains in a third channel. Subtraction and division may be similarly carried out. The board 10 may comprise two superimposed plates held apart by spacers with channels in one of the plates or a single plate with slots mounted in it. Counters may be introduced into the apparatus by an aperture 16.
