919,025. Educational appliances. DIENES, Z. P. Nov. 16, 1959 [Nov. 14, 1958], No. 36768/58. Class 146 (2). Apparatus for teaching arithmetic comprises a set of blocks in which there are a plurality of each of four kinds. The kinds of blocks consist of a unit cube 10, a strip 11 of two unit cubes length, a square 12 one unit cube in height and of sides equal in length to the strip 11, and a large cube 13 having sides equal in length to the strip 11. The larger blocks on their larger sides have marking lines 14 such as grooves or ink lines indicating unit cube lengths. The set shown has volumes illustrating a geometrical progression to the power of 2 while in another example the ratio of the strip length to the small cube side is 3, thus illustrating a progression to the power of 3. A set may be made for other powers and a tray may be provided marked in columns and rows to form squares equal in size to the large cube.
