Class 146(2) Apparatus for teaching arithmetic comprises a baseboard marked or formed into a series of cells k and having horizontal and vertical scales j, h along its bottom and left-hand edges, the scales being marked with numbers associated with the vertical and horizontal rows of the cells k; and a series of counters d each of a size to fit within a cell are provided and marked in sets with 1, 2, 3......, 2, 4, 6......, 3, 6, 9...... &c. so that multiplication and division may be taught in accordance with the concept of counting. The scales which may be marked with any series of numbers, fractions or alphabetical groups, are slidably mounted in grooves i, g and corresponding groups of counters d are housed in a drawer b attached to the baseboard. The cells k are formed by wire staples l, pinheads, or indentations, and the top and right-hand edges of the board left irregular to indicate that the cells may extend further.
