Abstract

1,063,998. Builder motions. HAMEL G.m.b.H. Sept. 24, 1963 [Sept. 27, 1962], No. 37450/63. Heading DID. In a building motion for a ring-frame in which the ring-rail is traversed, through a chain attached at one end to the rail, by the oscillation of a lever engaging a rotating cam and pivoted at one end remote from the cam, two pulleys and a second pivoted lever are provided; one pulley is arranged on the camlever near its end which engages the cam, the chain passes around the two pulleys as it passes from the rail, while the second lever is oscillated more slowly than the cam lever, the arrangement of the parts being such as to allow the position of the reversal points of the traverse to be controlled to produce either single or double taper packages. The cam lever 4 is pivoted at 5 and carries a pulley 6 on an arm 41 near the end which engages the cam 2. The second lever 8 is pivoted at 9 and is arranged to be oscillated by a worm and sector drive driven by a reversible motor 12, the driving- direction of which is reversed as the lever 8 engages contacts 14, 15. When single taper packages are to be produced, the second pulley 17 is arranged at the free end of the second lever, and one end of the chain is attached at 4<SP>11</SP> on the arm 4. The chain then passing around the lower pulley 17, back to the pulley 6 and then to the ring rail. The rotational axis of pulley 6 and the pivot 9 are arranged to be equidistant from the pivot 5, so that when the cam-lever engages the "low" point of the cam and is at the extreme left of its travel the rotational axis of the pulley 6 coincides with the pivot 9. Accordingly, with the two levers oscillating at different rates, whenever the low point of the traverse is reached, whatever the position of lever 8, the pulleys are separated by the same distance. The effective length of the chain is thus the same at the conclusion of each stroke and the ring-rail descends to the same level. It is arranged that the lowest position of the upper return point of the stroke occurs when the lever 8 actuates the switch 15 and the cam lever simultaneously engages the "high" point of the cam; thereafter, as the lever engages the "high" point, the lever 8 assumes different positions to the left of pivot 5 and the distance between the two pulleys increases, and hence, the effective length of the chain decreases. Accordingly the position of the upper reversal point changes from a minimum to a maximum; when the second reversal switch 14 is actuated and the lever 8 moves to the right, the position of the reversal point decreases to a minimum. To produce double taper packages where the position of both the upper and lower reversal points change between maxima and minima the anchorage of the chain is transferred to the lower end of the second lever 8 (Fig. 4 not shown), the pulley 17 is transferred to the lower end of the cam lever, and the reversal switches (14, 15) are displaced to the left.
