988,697. Roving frames. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. April 28, 1961 [April 29, 1960], No. 15505/61. Heading D1D. In conventional roving frame builder mechanism in which reversal of the bobbin rail traverse is initiated by the poker rack 40 oscillating through a final angle, the usual parallel sided slot connection between the bobbin rail 11 and poker rack 40 is replaced by one which includes, mounted under the bobbin rail, an internal cam slot 77 having facing cam surfaces non-uniformly spaced along their length such that as the package build progresses and the effective length of the rack 40 is shortened to move the projection 40b along the slot, a varying amount of lost motion is introduced in the transmission of motion from the bobbin rail to the rack 40 and a package having curved ends in place of the usual conical ends is produced. With the cam shape shown a package having convex ends Pc rather than the normal conical ends Pn is obtained; by modifying the shape of the cam various end surfaces may be formed.
