Abstract
A low alloy steel, which is highly hardenable when quenched from austenetizing temperatures at rates as low as 900 DEG F. per hour, comprises <TABS:1060050/C6-C7/1> the balance, apart from impurities (e.g. P, S and N), being iron. The austenetizing temperature may be 1550 DEG F. and the quenching may be by forced air cooling or by oil quenching. The alloy may then be tempered at 400 DEG F. This alloy is useful for making grinding mill liner elements.
