Abstract
1,055,040. Textile treating apparatus. TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATE LSKY INSTITUTE SHELKOVOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI. May 15, 1964, No. 20280/64. Heading D1L. Textile treating apparatus includes a pressure chamber for treating fluid under pressure having inlet and outlet openings, and, adjacent to at least one of the openings a pair of cooperating rolls relatively movable so that their mutual separation can vary, and sealing means including a part-cylindrical sealing member lying close to and movable with each roll and serving to prevent loss of treating fluid past the rolls. In the arrangement shown a housing 3 for mounting at the inlet or outlet of a pressure chamber has mounted therein two rolls 4,5 pressed against each other and having heat resistant resilient coatings 6 and part cylindrical sealing members 7,8 embracing said rolls. The journals of rolls 4,5 are mounted in roller bearings 12,13 supported in arms 14,15 adjustable in length and secured on shafts 16,17, such that rolls 4,5 can be pushed apart by passing seams &c. whilst at the same time being closely pressed to the fabric. The sealing members 7,8 are also mounted on the shafts 16,17. The journals of rolls 4,5 are sealed with suitable stuffing boxes 18,20,22 and 19, 21, 23 and shafts 16,17 are sealed with stuffing boxes 25,27,29 and 26,28,30. The ends of members 7,8 are sealed with rubber linings 32 and the gap between the ends of rolls 4,5 and housing 3 are sealed by the coatings 6. Sealing between the members 7,8 and the housing 3 is provided by heat-resisting rubber strips 33 which also act as cushioning members when the rolls move. The rolls 4,5 are interconnected and driven by suitable gearing and parts 34,36 help to guide and straighten fabric as it passes through the apparatus. Any fluid passing through the gaps between rolls 4,5 and rings 7 and 8 and emerging at atmospheric pressure is drawn off through pipes 11 (Fig. 1, not shown) by pumps 9 and returned via pipes 10 to the pressure side.
