Abstract
1,000,967. Finishing fabrics. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. June 13, 1962 [June 27, 1961], No. 23140/61. Addition to 911, 599. Heading D1S. [Also in Divisions B5 and F4]. A fluidized bed for heating or cooling textiles, nylon &c. as described in the parent Specification, in which improved means for preventing the escape of particles of the bed through the clearance between the casing and the peripheral portion of the rollers adjacent thereto is provided. As shown, the upper region of the rollers 4, 5 which are at any moment adjacent to the container 1 are surrounded by a casing 15 which is attached to the base 2. The casing 15 comprises a pair of end plates (not shown) and a pair of hollow side members 18 and 19 extending longitudinally one on each side of and parallel to the rollers 4 and 5. The members 18 and 19 are mirror images and only one will be described. The members 18 comprises a face 20 formed as a quadrant of a circle and situated near the periphery of roller 4. The clearance between the roller and the member being approximately half the average diameter of the fluidized bed particles. Support means for the member 18 comprises two ring bolts 21 (only one shown). The bolts are secured to brackets 24 by nuts 22 and 23 and at their lower end are attached by shackle pins 25 to lugs 26 which are integral with member 18. A pair of eccentrically mounted pivot pins 27 also support member 18. The pins 27 are attached to rotatable shafts 28 mounted on the respective end plates (not shown) and the pins 27 engage in corresponding sockets formed in the ends of member 18. Adjustment of the clearance between the face 20 and the surface of the roller 4 is obtained by combining the movement of these two means of support. The side members 18,19 are each provided with an air inlet passage 29, the air being supplied at approximately 10 1b/in<SP>2</SP>, a pressure gauge 30 being provided to measure air pressure within each member. A slit 31 in the wall of each member substantially vertically above the axes of the rollers runs longitudinally and extends substantially the whole length of the members, and communicates with the hollow interior of the members such that the air from inlet 29 impinges on the upper periphery of the rollers in a tangential direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the rollers. Most of the air is then directed by ridge 37 on baffles 26 into gallery 35 and out via pipes 34 into a trough (not shown). A small quantity of air is directed downwards by the baffles 36 towards the nip 14 and then upwards through channel 6 into the fluidized bed 8. A sealing member comprising a longitudinally extending felt strip 33 is provided at the lower edge of each member.
