Abstract

1306897 Textile treating apparatus BURLINGTON INDUSTRIES Inc 8 Oct 1971 [28 Oct 1970] 46982/71 Addition to 1246806 Heading D1L The process and apparatus of the parent Specification 1246806 are modified to enable vacuum degassed textile webs to be treated with a liquid treating agent at superatmospheric pressure. As illustrated in Fig. 1 textile material 10' is continuously fed through sealing inlet 29' to vacuum degassing chamber 4' maintained at a pressure of not more than 6 inches of mercury and then passes through sealing outlet 30' directly to contact the treating liquid 28 maintained at superatmospheric pressure in treating chamber 26'. The web passes round roller 54 and up through the impregnating liquid to be discharged through sealing rollers 50. Chamber 4' is exacuated via take-off conduit 19 and treating chamber 26' is pressurised, preferably to between 40 and 50 p.s.i. through inlet 56. In a further modification (Fig. 2) the degassing chamber 4" and liquid treatment chamber 26" are contained in a larger fluid-tight tank 60 which is pressurised through inlets 64 with a gaseous treating agent (e.g. steam) and may also contain chemical treatment liquid 68 in tank 70. This apparatus enables vacuum degassing, pressurised liquid treatment, gaseous treatment, and further chemical treatment to be carried out successively on textile web 10" before it exits through sealing outlet 50'.
