Abstract

1,034,455. Cycle front fork steering and suspension. MOULTON CONSULTANTS Ltd. May 30, 1963 [May 30, 1962], No. 20821/62. Addition to 937,117. Heading B7E. A resilient front fork for a cycle comprises a fixed head tube 12, a fork tube 5 telescopically slidable within an axially fixed steering column 11 against the actions of compression springs 22, 23, and rebound spring 27, a bush 17 fixed within the column 11 and having a stool 18 screwed into a spring abutment bush 19, a bearing 24 locating the lower end of the fork tube 5, a bush 25 fixed on the upper end of the tube 5 and having a locating bearing 26 engaging the column 11, and a screw 30 holding a bronze key 31 which in the preferred embodiment is slidable within a slot 32 in the column 11. In operation, the tube 5 and column 11 are relatively slidable within the limits imposed by the slot 32, and the key 31 and slot together permit rotational movement of the handle-bar stem 15 and column 11 to be transmitted to the forks 2. A covering sleeve 28 can be slid upwardly to permit lubrication of internal parts, and a bellows 29 is provided.
