Abstract

727,411. Spring frames for cycles. RIVA, D. Dec. 31, 1951, [Dec. 29, 1950 ; April 4, 1951 ; Oct. 26, 1951], No. 30404/51. Class 136(3). In a vehicle such as a cycle fitted with an engine and having a frame in two parts articulated about a hinge o, the rear part 2 being fast with the rear fork and pedal bearing and the front part 1 fast with the pivot tube of the front fork, the saddle 17 of the vehicle is supported between two elastic elements 8, 5 (Fig. 2) acting in opposite directions on one and the other part of the articulated frame. As shown in Fig. 2 a main spring 5 bears at one end on the rear fork 2 and at the other end on a ring 6 screwed into a guide tube 7 fast with the front section 1 of the frame. A secondary spring 8 for taking up the reverse reactions of the suspension bears on the bottom of a tube 12. The other end of the spring 8 pulls on a rod 9 pivoted at 10, on the rear frame part 2. Alter. natively as shown in Fig. 6, a front section 41 is connected to a rear section 42 by an articulation 43. The front section 41 is pivoted on lugs 48 on the front fork. In addition the rear section 42 is articulated on the front fork by a lever 49 pivoted at 50 and 51 to the fork and rear section 42 respectively. The elastic element consists of two coil springs 26, 31, Fig. 4, disposed in a guide tube 27 attached to the front part of the frame. A further spring 33 is fitted in the saddle tube 30 to oppose the reaction of the springs 26, 31.
