Abstract
1,033,670. Thermal switches. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. Dec. 21, 1962, No. 48419/62. Heading H2B. In a thermal switch a compression spring 26 urges the thermal element 22, e.g. a snap-acting bimetallic disc, against a shoulder 20 of a thermally and electrically conductive cupshaped housing 12, the element 22 carrying a contact 24 co-operable with a terminal 32 insulatedly mounted in the housing. An insulating washer 30 carrying the terminal is positioned in a predetermined position in the housing cavity 18 to calibrate the switch by varying the bias of spring 26 and the initial spacing of contact 24 and terminal portion 36. Washer 30 is forcefitted, using tapered portion 35 of housing 12, before being sealed with epoxy resin 40. Alternatively the washer is screwed into position (Fig. 5, not shown).
