Abstract

994,361. Thermal switches. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. June 16, 1961 [July 14, 1960], No. 21878/61. Heading H2B. A thermostatic switch 10 comprising an insulating base 12 having coated thereon conductive portions 14, 16, 32, has a thermallyresponsive element 40 connected to one portion 32 and capable of moving a contact 46 into and out of engagement with another portion 16 providing a stationary contact. The element 40 is a bi-metallic or trimetallic snap-acting strip having an adjusting screw 56 in engagement therewith for calibration purposes. A resistance heater 30 located in an aperture 38 of the base 12 is connected between conductive portions 14 and 32. The conductive portions 14, 16, 32, are printed on, etched on or selectively adhered to the insulating base 12. The switch 10 operates with rise of ambient temperature or with excess current through the heater 30.
