Abstract
1,203,509. Thermal switches. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 10 Oct., 1968 [16 Oct., 1967 (3); 6 Feb., 1968 (2); 7 Feb., 1968; 12 Feb., 1968], No. 48037/68. Heading H1N. The response temperature of thermally responsive bi-metal actuated switches is controlled by varying the current in a solenoid 78, Fig. 6, so that the magnetic flux influences the movement of the contacts 68, 72. In the arrangement shown the moving contact 68 on a spring blade 67 is thermally actuated by a bimetal strip 63 through slotted insulator 64. The normally fixed contact 72 is mounted on a spring blade 71 carrying a magnetic plate 73 influenced by the solenoid 78 from a coaxial polepiece 76. A resilient member 79 of rubber or PVC is arranged between the polepiece 76 and the plate 73. In other examples the solenoid may be mounted on the bi-metal element or fixed contact and may influence either the fixed or movable contact, either of which may be of magnetic material or carry a plate of magnetic material. In a further modification a magnetic bi-metal contact strip 132, Fig. 13, may be mounted in a hermetically sealed capsule of non-magnetic material and surrounded by a solenoid 134. Terminal plates 137, 138 may be hermetically sealed to a bobbin 131 and the inside space may be evacuated or gas-filled.
