Abstract
1,031,022. Preventing crane loads from swing- ing. VICKERS Ltd. Jan. 28, 1965 [Jan. 22, 1964], No. 2850/64. Heading B8B. In a jib crane the load hook 6 is prevented from swinging by lines 5 which are wound on drums 4. The hook of an overhead crane may be restrained in a similar manner, the drums 4 being mounted on an end carriage of the gantry. Four drums and lines may be provided, two drums on each end carriage. A constant torque is applied to the drums in a direction to take up slack in lines 5 by a motor of any known type which is separate from the load motor. The drums can only be driven in the direction to wind in the lines, rotation in the opposite sense being prevented by an adjustable brake or slipping clutch. In small cranes the drive means and drums 4 may be replaced by springs.
