Abstract
1,154,858. Cranes with telescopic jibs. L. H. WIDEGREW. 18 Aug., 1966 [6 Oct., 1965], No. 37116/66. Headings B8B and B8H. [Also in Division E1] A vehicle mounted jib-crane, Fig. 1, has a jib comprising an outer member 5 and an inner telescopic member 17 of U-shaped cross-section which is extended by being unreeled from a drum 13. The member 17 is made of strip-steel prestressed to a U-shaped cross-section and is guided by rollers 18, 19; 20, 21; 22, 23. The extended end of the member 17 is maintained U-shaped by interconnected transverse braces 26 which are successively drawn out as the member 17 is extended. Fig. 6 (not shown), illustrates an embodiment provided with a hoisting rope and winch. Two U-shaped members may be interconnected to form an extensible mast (see Division E1).
