Abstract

1,209,263. Overhead travelling cranes; devices frictionally engaging loads. ISHIKAWAJIMA - HARIMA JUKOGYO, K.K. 12 Jan., 1968 [13 Jan., 1967], No. 1836/68. Headings B8B and B8H. A crane comprises load supporting means 5 suspended from a trolley 3 by cables 9 guided by sheaves 7, 8, the sheaves 8 at each side of the said means 5 being interconnected by means such as a friction coupling 13 so that they can only rotate in opposite directions whereby swinging of the load is prevented. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), each sheave 8 is fixed on a shaft driving an oil pump, the oil pump being interconnected by pipes and the arrangement being such that if the sheaves rotate in the same direction the pumps pump the oil into one of the pipes thereby counteracting the rotation of the sheaves but if the latter rotate in opposite directions the oil is circulated through the pipes. In a third embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the load engaging means is a gripper for lifting logs, and the cables extend from a drum on the trolley.
