The coiled wire filament of a tubular lamp has at least one intermediate support of wire bent to form two arms in a plane at right angles to the lamp axis, the bent section and the ends of the arms bearing against the envelope wall, each arm crossing a plane through the lamp axis and a part on the bent section at least once, one at least of the arms being bent so that together they prevent displacement of the filament in the plane perpendicular to the lamp axis. In one form the support consists of two bracing arms formed by a wire bent back at a sharp angle, the arms being arched between the angle and the vicinity of the filament, bent at an angle and continued as straight crossing sections which bear on the opposite side of the envelope. In another form, the central section 6 is followed by crossed arms 7 which are bent at 8 in the vicinity of the filament 2 and then doubled back at 9 in the vicinity of the plane E through the central section and tile axis of the filament. In the modification one arm 11 extending from the central section is straight and the other arm follows the curvature of the filament arch. In a further modification, both arms are curved to follow the curvature of the filament coil. The central section may have portions parallel to the axis of the tube and the bracing arm ends may be bent to lie along the tube parallel to the axis.
