Abstract

Associated with a pressure roller assembly located between two cotton carding machines are a first stripping roller mounted immediately adjacent the doffer of the first carding machine and a second stripping roller for transferring fibres from the pressure rollers to the second carding machine. The doffer is driven at a high surface speed. The fibre web is removed from the doffer 16 by a card clothed stripper roller 17 followed by a redirecting roller 18. Following the pressure rollers are a card clothed stripper roller 19, a transfer roller 20 and the taker-in roller 21 of the second carding machine. A slight drafting effect may be obtained by the rollers 17-20. The pressure roller assembly 4, 5 and rollers 17, 18, 19, 20 with their drive mechanism may be mounted on a frame 22 so that they may be moved away from the carding machines by lifting tackle. A second pressure roller assembly 6, 7 may follow the second carding machine. In an alternative form, rollers 18, 20 may be omitted and the second pressure roller assembly 6, 7 may also be dispensed with. It is stated that the speeds of the doffers may be up to six times the ordinary doffer speed.
