Abstract

1,023,773. Electric thermal storage heaters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 19, 1965 [Feb. 19, 1964], No. 6927/64. Heading F4U. In an electric space heater having an air inlet 1 and air outlet 2, cooling air is mixed with air which has abstracted heat from the heat storage mass 5, the temperature of which controls by a thermostat 12 a valve 6 in a partition 3, allowing cool air from the inlet passage 1 to by-pass the mass 5. As shown, the valve is hinged to the partition below an orifice 4 and operated by a lever 17, 18 contacted to the free end 15 of a bi-metallic strip 12 fixed in a recess 9 in the mass 5. The strip 12 may be in the form of a helix so that the free end 15 is rotated to open the by-pass valve 6 as the temperature of the mass increases, to keep the issuing air at a constant temperature.
