Abstract

984,992. Thermal storage space heaters. TYRAD ELECTRIC Ltd., and R. D. JACKSON. Feb. 14, 1963 [Nov. 14, 1961], No. 40757/61. Heading F4U. A thermal storage space heater comprises a storage body having a cavity which contains heater means, air being drawn through the cavity by a fan at the air exit. In the form shown, the storage core 12 is provided with a number of substantially horizontal air passages 22, each containing an electrical heating element 23 and one end of each passage is connected to a common inlet passage 16 in the core and the other to a common outlet passage 17 in the core. The surrounding insulation 13 is contained within metal casings 20 and 11, and the casing 20 is separated from the core by an air space 55. The base of the heater has an inner rectangular compartment and an outer horizontal U-shaped one. Air from an inlet grille enters the outer compartment 26, thence enters the passage 16 and passes through the passages 22 to the passage 17 which conveys it into the inner compartment 25. A manuallyoperated damper 31 in the wall 30 between the compartments controls the amount of mixing of cold and warm air, and the mixed air is emitted by a fan 28 at the front of the inner compartment through an exit grille. A switch (not shown) brings the fan and heaters into operation together or separately. A cutout 36 disconnects both heater and fan when it reaches a first predetermined temperature and reconnects them below a second predetermined temperature. A safety cut-out 37 disconnects heater and fan at a higher predetermined temperature.
