Abstract
1,009,982. Drafting-apparatus. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. Sept. 28, 1962 [Oct. 20, 1961], No. 37714/61. Heading D1D. In wet-spinning on a ring-frame, especially of green or retted flax, the roving is controlled over part at least of the drafting-zone, solely from beneath by a moving belt or apron. The roving is drawn from a bobbin 2 suspended in a trough 4 filled with water, over a lip 5, through a groove bar 6 which reciprocates to traverse the yarn, to the retaining and drawing rollers 7, 8 and 9,10 of a drafting-act, and thence to a ring-spindle. Between the two sets of rollers, to engage the roving over approximately the lower half of the drafting- region and with its forward end approaching the nip of the rollers 9,10 is disposed an apron 14 passing around a driven roller 15 and supported by a plate 16 so that the line of the apron in contact with the roving is slightly proud of a line joining the nips of the rollers. To adjust the degree of control according to the nature of the fibres under treatment, an adjustable bar 25 is provided. Water may be dripped on to the rollers as described in Specification 737,197.
