Abstract

A vessel (1) full of stored liquid (2) e.g. wine, holds a flexible container (3) filled with compensating liquid (6), e.g. water. This container is connected by a tube (4) to an external compensating liquid reservoir (5). Changes of pressure or volume due to temperature or distortion are compensated by liquid pushed out or sucked in to the flexible container. The reservoir is placed above the storage vessel, so maintaining the stored liquid at a slightly positive pressure. The connection tube passes through a cover (8) fitted with sealing devices (10) and clamped by screws (11, 12). A stoppered opening (15) is used for topping up or inspection.
