Abstract

The process is particularly for bottles of flexible plastic, which are filled with warm fluid. A cap (3) is used, having a vent (6) in the top also an elastic membrane (5) on the inside. The latter distorts towards the inside of the bottle under the effect of cooling, and before finally sealing the vent the air in the intervening space between membrane and cap is flushed out and replaced by inert gas. The membrane can be of material permeable to gas but not liquid. The process is particularly for liquid foodstuffs liable to ferment, and avoids bottle distortion after filling as they cool.
